After 1924, Forster ceased to write novels. His pageant play, produced in collaboration with Ralph Vaughan Williams, was staged by the Dorking and Leith Hill Preservation Society at Milton Court in 1938. The play concerns threats to the English countryside from the eighteenth century onwards and the struggles of those who live in the country to preserve it.
