[*Hampson Simpson: Saturday Night File LSW 4/8*]
Dear Mr. Woolf,
Many thanks for your letter.
I am so pleased that [illeg. characters deleted] Mrs. Woolf and yourself consider my talents worthy of such generous encouragement.
I am writing to Mr. R. Savage telling him of your offer and of my intended acceptance.
At this early date the two following points may seem a little absurd.
One. I should like to revise the dedication of ‘the Greyhound’. Mr. Forrest Reid has been extremely good to me. I hope he will accept it.
Two. My full name is clumsy. Subject to your approval I should like to use John Hampson.
At present I am at work on a novel 'the White Horse', using a form new to me. It is shaping well and I feel it is better than any of my other (long) things. Your kindness alows [sic] me to work on steadily, with out [sic] attempting to catch the eye of a publishers [sic] reader on the watch for light efforts. I am very greatfull [sic] and excited.
Yours sincerely | John Hampson Simpson [signature]
