H. C. Coaten Esq.,
The Garden City Press Ltd.,
Letchworth, Herts.

11th July, 1940.

Dear Mr. Coaten,

We have now heard from the Press Censorship Bureau about Ali’s novel, and I am glad to say that they are prepared to pass it for publication with the excisions made by Mr. Ali on my advice. We have their official chit to this effect, and I therefore feel you will probably have no objection to continuing work. If you will just let me know about this, I will return the corrected galleys to you.

There is another point I should like to take up. I see that under a new set of regulations we are responsible under the War Risks Insurance scheme for work in progress as well as work completed. I think you have probably seen the two alternative courses suggested by the Publisher’s Association to its members; we ourselves feel that Course A is the more satisfactory of the two, but would like to hear whether that is being generally followed by your clients. In any case, it occurs to me that we may be adequately covered under our General Insurance Policy. Please let me have a word from you at your convenience.

Yours sincerely,

J. L [signature]
