Dear Sirs,
Ali - Yet Life Goes On
I regret there has been a delay in answering your letter of April 10th, but I understand that there was some hitch about the terms just as I was going away for a week's holiday. I have no objection to letting Mr. Ali have his advance on the signing of the Agreement, now that the manuscript is in our hands. I was, I must confess, rather at a loss to understand the association of this concession with the extension we proposed in the time limit. We have every intention of publishing this book within six months, but in wartime events may occur over which we have absolutely no control which can prevent the carrying out of any such rigid stipulation about time. I feel sure you will appreciate this. I enclose signed Agreement and the cheque and would be glad to receive the Agreement signed by your firm by return.
Yours faithfully, | John Lehmann.
