Dear Madam,
Thank you for writing so quickly about the two jackets. I am sorry you do not think the colour schemes shown in the proofs are successful, and I will have a shot at proofing them in the alternative colours you suggest. Unfortunately, 'Between the Acts' will be ready for jacketing within the next few days, but as you suggest black printing for that book, we should not hold the printers up very long.
I am a little bit worried about printing in red on the blue paper, as my past experience has always been that it is a difficult colour scheme to pull off successfully: the one colour seems to cancel

out the other, with the result that the design loses some of its punch. You do not suggest any particular shade of red. Would it be too much to ask you to make a suggestion with a dab of paint on the blue jacket which I return? I can then give it as a guide to the printer and I think much time would be saved in that way.
I am so sorry to trouble you further but I feel sure that you will understand that we want to get these jackets exactly right.
Yours faithfully, | for The Hogarth Press Ltd.
