My dear Leys,

Sales to date 862. The last week has again been good, but it is a little flattered by the fact that 25 were in one order from the wholesaler Simpkin Marshall--though it is a good sign that after dropping in their previous order to 12 they have gone up again to 25. But dont [sic] be disappointed if it is a much leaner week next, as it is almost certain to be. Your 3 copies of second edition and 3 of first will be posted to you today.

It might be worth while considering now that we have actually sold out the last copy of the first edition and are supplying the second to the trade whether you should spend five or six pounds on advertizing. It might pay to have a small space in the Times Lit. Supp., Nation, New Statesman &c simply saying

We shall be doing good deal of advertizing in May and June and this could go in with our other books and therefore could be kept quite small and so reduce expense. What do you think?

I am sorry we shall not see you on Wednesday, but I hope it will only be postponed. I know that creature Denham^*1 he comes from the Ceylon Civil Service.
