Dear Miss Burch,

Thank you for your letter of yesterday's date, and for having suggested to Newman Wolsey Ltd to get into touch with me with regard to "Stavrogin's Confession".

[handwritten note added by The Hogarth Press] [*22/1/48 phoned to say don't worry about Pocket Books.*]

I cannot at present find any communication from the Hogarth Press as regards the reprint of "The Gent. from San Francisco" by an Indian publisher (which I may still find). But I found a letter of April 25, 1947, from Miss Newman, about Pocket Books Inc. of New York asking for permission to reprint "The Gent." in a collection of short stories, and suggesting a fee of  ten guineas. I have never heard any more about it.

Yours sincerely | S.S. Koteliansky [signature]
