Letter from Norah Smallwood to Allen Lane regarding the reprinting of Virginia's Common Readers in Penguin. "As I think perhaps I hinted, he is not willing to release THE COMMON READER at the moment, as he has plans for doing a one volume Demy edition, but he would be very happy for you to publish BETWEEN THE ACTS." Also of interest: "After a little hesitation due to his dislike of cheap editions in general, he has now agreed to make an exception in your case."
