John Lehmann Esq.

Hertford Street, W.1

8th January 1944

Dear Mr. Lehmann

In our “Personal Choice” programme on 19th January, Mr. Ruthven Todd would like to read two poems by John Crowe Ransom, namely, “Captain Carpenter”, 64 lines and “Dead Boy”, 20 lines.

Both these poems have been taken from the Faber Book of Modern Verne, in which acknowledgments [sic] are made to yourselves, the author and Mr. Alfred Knopf. I shall be very glad to know whether you are in a position to authorise this broadcast, and, if so, whether you can agree to accept a fee of three guineas for “Captain Carpenter” and two guineas for “Dead Boy”. We shall of course be pleased to make the usual acknowledgment of the titles of the poems and the author’s name.

If these terms are acceptable, would you please complete and return the enclosed agreement form.

Yours sincerely, | S. McGrath [signature]

DG
