Letter from Leonard Woolf to William Plomer (20/07/1949)

Library:

University of Reading, Special Collections

Archival Folder:

Leonard Woolf informs WIlliam Plomer that the Press wants to republish I Speak of Africa but finds it hard to sell novel reprints at original price of 7s.6d. Chatto's Phoenix Library is now reissued as New Phoenix Library and has joint publication of Hogarth Press titles; the Press wants to include I Speak of Africa. It is proposed to publish at 5s, but the author cannot be paid more than 5d. Woolf prefers to reissue at 6s to afford a 10% royalty, but thinks the Press and Plomer will earn more overall if it is reissued at 5s. Typescript letter dictated by Leonard Woolf and signed by AB.
