Dear Mr. Woolf:
We have just sold the memoir of Leslie Stephen which appears in THE CAPTAIN’S DEATH BED to Mr. Edward Weeks of The Atlantic for three hundred dollars. They will use it in their March issue and they want to print it under the heading “My Father, Leslie Stephen.”
The Atlantic also has under consideration the two essays entitled “Selina Trimmer” and “the Cosmos” and they may decide to use these as a double piece in their April issue (out March 21).
Harper’s Bazaar is to let me know early next week about “Flying Over London,” “Oliver Goldsmith” and “Ruskin.” It seems fairly certain that they will take at least one of these for early magazine publication. Finally, the long essay on “Reviewing,” with your note appended thereto, is under consideration at the Saturday Review of Literature.
I cannot ignore the opportunity to tell you what great pleasure I have got out of THE CAPTAIN’S DEATH BED. I believe I have enjoyed it even more than THE MOMENT and THE DEATH OF THE MOTH.
I shall keep you informed on the magazine situation. Meanwhile, we look forward to the jacket proof which Mr. Brace tell me you are forwarding. I assume that your publication date has not yet been set. It will be most helpful to know it when it is definite.
With best wishes, | Sincerely Yours, | Robert Giroux [signature] Robert Giroux
