Dear Morgan,
I have had a letter from Knopf rather indignant at being asked to pay an advance "on such a book as PHAROS & PHARILLON" and a little plaintive about his "generosity." He asks me to telephone whether we will accept the 10% royalty with Canadian sales as half or whether we will quote him for 500 sheets.
We have 200 still in sheets which we might of course sell to him, but he would give us very little and I am against this as I am sure we ought to sell it out here. On the whole I think you would be well advised to accept his 10% as I think the American public possibly considers Alexandria "remote" as Brace put it. Will you let me know by return?
Yours | Leonard [Woolf] [signature]
